9 facts about flamingos!

Hey pink pinkets!In today's mini doc we will be discussing a very common breed,maybe because of its reputation of being beautiful!So let's get to it!

1-The flamingo comes from the Spanish and Latin word flamenco witch means 'fire'


2-Did you know flamingos live for a really long time,some where spoted living up to 70 years old in captivity,but in the wild they live up to 30 years(as seen in documentary's)


3-Flamingos are social birds,they live in colonies of occasionally thousands! 


4-American flamingos live in west indies and in the northern parts of South America and along the Galapagos Islands.

5-Did you know that when flamingos eat shrimp they turn pink?But in reality flamingos are white!


6-Flamingos eat larva,small insects,blue,green and red algea,small fish,crustaceans, brine shrimp,aquatic plants and diatoms. 

7-Flamingos are part of the family Phoenicopteridae. Phoenicopteridae means a warm blooded egg laying vertebrates marked by feathers and wings. 


8-Though it is believed that flamingos are tropical birds, they can also live and thrive in cold environments as long as they have an entry to the food they need to survive.


9-Last but not least!!Did you know that baby flamingos are born white,but the more they eat the more their color starts to form!
